Fouta towels (also spelled futa) is the name mainly used around the middle east,. It is a piece of thin patterned cotton or linen fabric used in many Mediterranean countries and Yemen, originally Tunisian.

Despite different names, the origins are all coming from the lands of Ottoman Empire.

Hammam culture was popular across the empire and Turkish towels were an essential part of all hammam sessions.
