Tricks and Tips for Packing Efficiently

You are flying tomorrow morning for a nice and relaxing holiday but how the hell are you going to fit EVERYTHING in that suitcase? Here is a simple guide to help you with that:

1)     Check the weather!

What will be essential for your trip is really dependent on what the weather is going to be like. You don’t want to take any thick jumpers with you if you know that it’s going to be warm and sunny. If it’s going to be hot, you don’t want to forget your bathing suit or sunscreen.

2)     Plan the days and occasion

How many days will you be there? Are you expected to join any formal events? Quickly have a think of appropriate clothes for different occasions. This way you will make sure not to fill in your suitcase with lots of unnecessary clothes.

3)     Large and heavy items first

Put heavy and larger items at the bottom of the suitcase. This will make it much easier to find what you are looking for in your suitcase.

4)      Roller or a Folder?

There are ups and downs to rolling and folding your clothes. But whichever you choose, you need to be consistent so that you can plan what fits where. When you roll tightly you are more likely to fit in more items in your suitcase but folding will help to keep your clothes nice and neat. Rolling might wrinkle your clothes and you might reach the weight limit without realising!

5)     Hidden space in your shoes

It’s easy to forget that you can fit in some items in your shoes. Maybe socks or underwear or some valuables? It’s like a secret storage space so make sure you use it.

6)     Pack light!

Obviously you wouldn’t like to take any unnecessary items with you. But of the necessary ones, make sure you choose light and compact alternatives. Some winter coats are just not efficient to take with you on holidays- you need light and compact one that will keep you warm. Same goes for towels. Make sure you choose a compact, absorbent, and quick-dry towel (like a Luf Turkish towel!) that will not take too much space in your suitcase and still be a great companion to you on your holiday.

7)     Use plastic bags for shoes

You wouldn’t like to get all your clothes dirty or damage them with the dirty bottoms of your shoes. You can use a simple grocery bag to avoid this issue.

8)     Special things go on top

Any formal wear (shirts, suits, dresses) needs to go on top. This way you can take them out and hand them right away. Also this will allow them to lie flatter and have less wrinkles.
